Improved. Lenovo redesigned its entry-level ThinkPad and equips the business notebook with a new case as well as a processor from Intel's current Haswell generation. Despite the price of well-below 1,000 Euros, the device is supposed to keep up the ThinkPad impression and also meet the according requirements. Our review shows if it was a success.

There is an option to set the optical drive into 'silent' mode (which I assume will cost some performance. No idea if this actually fixes or reduces that whole constant spinning time because really - whoever still uses there optical drive? Also noteworthy is Lenovo's excelent 'System Update' software, which automatically downloads all recent drivers for those of you who are like me, and do clean installs to get rid of all the bloatware. And no - using system update does not actually install all that same bloatware again, just your basic needed drivers.

Not a great looker, but performance like a champ (although I upgraded mine with a Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD. Would recommend.

L530 get resonable 82% for full plastic case, while L540 for the same thing 91% - logic?
