A leaker has offered up some clues in regard to upcoming redesigned Apple iMacs. According to the details, the iMac computers will feature considerable changes on the outside and on the inside. This includes being powered by M1-based Apple Silicon, which could end up being the oft-rumored 12-core M1X chip.

which type of RAM? DDR4 or DDR5?

Apple is well knowns for their medium frequencies.... (hope that isn't the same 3600MHz)

why not? they were the first cmy to use 5nm node, maybe will be the first to use DDR5 ram, Could be good with their awesome iGPU.

To not talk that LPDDR5 are already used by many phones/notebooks companies producers. if they used m1 using only 10W TDP really doubt that get same consumption of olds generations, more probably with 45/55W.

Personally i think that the most exciting thing is to use parallel desktop for windows or Linux released by the software engineer this year.

You shouldn't confuse DDR with LPDDR. Not the same thing. Yes, Tiger Lake, for example, supports LPDDR5 (along with LPDDR4X and DDR4). M1 uses LPDDR4X. The next generation could upgrade to LPDDR5. It would make sense. But DDR5? Unlikely. I could see it happening on a dedicated desktop chip, perhaps for the future Mac Pro in 2022. I don't see it likely for an iMac.

on videocardz some accounts are talking about DDR5, I'm more agree with you about LPDDR5 @_MT_  (but they won't get the same perfs of DDR5).

Wrote aboDDR5 because old iMacs were using that type of ram with 65W TDP intel processors. [If I remeber well tons of ram respect normal personal computers] XD typical of Apple with an AMD dVGA like 16/32/64Gb could increase performances of a castreted machine but for bumped money always according them yes: image want to buy more RAM? +8 250$ +16 +400$ +32 +1000$ .

That's because those 65 W processors are desktop processors. Even laptops used to use DDR exclusively. LPDDR was originally developed for phones and tablets.

I wonder what they're going to do for the graphics on the largest model. Still go fully SoC even up to desktops that large? Or will they start to split out graphics to have more mm2 and heat dissipation to throw at it? You can have unified memory on a dedicated GPU setup, they're not necessarily tied together. Then I wonder how they'll do the bandwidth setup. What the M1 gets out of only 70GB/s is very impressive, but this is replacing dedicated graphics with hundreds of GB/s of bandwidth in the iMac now, it's efficient with bandwidth but not to the point you wouldn't need more to move up.

I guess if you look at the 9th gen consoles which are 'only' on 7nm, you could cover the needs of almost every mac graphically already in a single chip solution, the future of the Mac Pro would be the biggest question, even with an SoC there's no replacement for just stacking a bunch of high power GPUs.

good answers @tipoo to not talk about that 24" is 4K and 31" 5K.

M1 is in pair of GTX 1050Ti w/ 8GPU , M1X of imac with 16GPU cores are like GTX 1050Ti SLI in pair of a GTX 1080, really impressive for a 35-45W . Obviously I saw the die on WCtech but don't know which is the size of it, I would like to know if it's in 3D stack but according Anandtech TSMC will be able in 2022 with HBM cache... however ARM processors are a revolution in science computer technology, nowadays.
