Slim entry-level gamer. Acer's slim gaming notebook can offer an IPS display and a fast NVMe SSD as well as good battery runtimes.

I bought 2 of these last year for my staff for multimedia  work and I see the have note changed the keyboard..

It is a horrible design... the dark red letters are almost impossible to read even with backlighting full on........someone put the power on/off button as a key in the top right corner ( where the delete key is on most computers) .... the shift button is tiny and not under the return key like most keyboards....

Will never buy a computer with such a badly design keyboard layout as this again

Since when is 270cd/m2 dark? It's just not very bright. I love notebookcheck, but there are extreme inconsistencies when reviewing screens based on what the individual user's standard is. You should seriously consider giving the screen a rating using a calculation of all the wonderful measurements you have.

I bought the 2016 model and as the article says, the fan usually standed still and made no noise at all when browsing the internet or reading documents, which was very comfortable. I got my computer exchanged for the model of early 2017 and I am very upset that now the fan is always running whatever I do, the acer "coolboost" option does not change anything when activated or not... I would like to know if it is normal, does your computer do this too?

I bought this Acer Nitro in december (12.2017) , with the same graphic card (GTX 1050 TI) and the same processor (i7-7700 HQ) and I can't get the performance of graphic card like in the article (I tested it even when it was first started = same results like now) for example, in CINEBENCH R15 , i get only average 86-91 fps, not 100+- like in the article, is it the same model of laptop, what is the problem ? I don't have any programs running on background, I have best performance settings in power options, best performance setting in graphic card options, and I have 10-15 % performance loss ? Can anybody help ? It looks like nothing, but the graphic card seems to behave like 1050 classic, not 1050 TI ... but notebook has been bought with 1050 TI and system shows 1050 TI ... what may cause the problem ? Thank anybody for any advice  :-\

The reason why performance is weaker on other models is due to Intel Graphics drivers.

Those that windows install usually come with a performance hit on overall system performance.

It's best advised to manually install the newest one available.

I got the same model, why do you think it can be because of the HD Graphics driver ? I didn't mean integrated HD Graphics performance, but dedicated nVidia GTX 1050 Ti. And for GTX I have drivers up to date all the time :/ .

Stock Intel 600P SSD doesn't work with Windows 10 April installation, just reminder for those who doesn't know.

Acer V Nitro Nitro AN515-51 is collection of mixed hardware - some is good, some is bad. I bought Nitro V with Linux because I need Win 10 Pro and purchased licence separated. So now I  for 4 days can not Install windows 10 because of hardware incompability - there is cheap Atheros WiFi and Bluetooth that cause problems. Win 7-8.1 installs without problems, but there is newer hardware than those systems can support. Win 10 crashes on installation for incompatible hardware. Acer site provides no information and outdated drivers only for Win 10 that can not work. Be aware - if you have time and are IT specialist - you can purchase this for fun and weekend become busy else stay away from this. It is good gadget for low price but with some problems - LCD with IPS is not perfect but good, GTX 1050 has good speed in benchmarks and games and there is option to install second SSD drive. Thats all with positive. Cheap plastic case, only red colour not  bright lighting keyboard, set of cheap communications hardware, good but not enough sound, problems with only one supported windows system etc.

Would anyone know how well an external ultrawide 4k monitor will perform for casual gaming and basic every day use?

I agree with Gary. The really annoying thing about the keyboard is that the backlight on the keys goes off and you have to keep pressing the Fn button or something else even when mains power is on. Acer needs to offer an option to allow this backlight to stay on.
