The hunt continues. The Predator 17 is the second device from Acer's new gaming series. Despite the bulky chassis, the cooling solution cannot completely convince us.

THIS ARTICLE IS SO THROUGH I DONT EVEN NEED A VIDEO DO MORE OF THIS I LOVE IT

Hey there, I saw you didn't mention Xsplit gamecaster; Having issues with that program, wondering you had the same.

I signed up for it, got my free trial, was satisfied for a bit then discovered; You can't disable it's features. Every single game you start acts as though you are streaming, and starts up certain features, such as; a bright green FPS counter in the bottom left, some sort of symbol in the upper right corner blocking view of a minimap icon or whatever might be there in game. and the kicker: every game you start, starts your webcam.

EVEN AFTER UNINSTALLING. This is getting ridiculous. I can't believe such a program comes packaged with this amazing notebook. I feel like I'm being spied on, there's no way to disable to webcam.

Even when I had the program installed, when I disabled Webcam in settings, it would still start up every time I started a game. As one would expect, this puts a bit of extra un-needed strain on my laptop, and it makes me feel like I'm being spied on lol...

Is there a way to know the response time and if it's 60Hz? Thanks

Thanks a LOT for this review! However you've got one thing wrong !!!
The laptop is LOUD, because all the fans are set to spin !!!
Just open the Acer app on the desktop of the preinstalled Windows and
disable the Always on fan mode and then it gets totally silent ;-)
So, it was quite misleading, but otherwise it's a good review. Thank you!

What I have is G9-791-73n7

Don't use the acer software , it's just bloatware, W10 feels everything right , and sets all pretty good.
Laptop is so big you can put 2 X 15'' cooling pads under it -- do that fore intensive gaming. Depending on how much fps you wanna '  squeeze out of it , so the temperature goes up.
If I play on 45 fps, temperature doesn't go above 63 Celsius. (of course with 2x15" cooling pads turned on, to cool the tractor down)

Yes, it has a 60Hz refresh rate panel

HGST HDD it came with are rubbish, the whole lot is a piece of s***. First one was factory broken, second one was broke by me . Now I roll with an samsung evo 860 SSD 500 GB and WD 1 TB .

I put in some extra 16 GB RAM + the 8 GB it had . Now it uses 12 GB of RAM for video memory when I play, it goes up to 200 fps in The Division.

LAN is nice 1 GB/second internet speed is supported, however it happened once that it didn't recognize the cable.

The screen has bleeding, frame is mounted like crap, they didn't fix this at SMABIT worthless ACER service in Romania. Now they only want 182 or 187 EUR to change the display....  I am going for an OLED , and screw them.

Product is far , very far away from what a 1330 EUR laptop should be.
I did not wait 5 months for someone from US to bring an Alienware, now I am sorry , Alienware had no DVD , and smaller battery, but it had GTX 1060.

Windows 7 works on this G9 , buit you need a software to control the fans .
