Aktuell kochen zahlreiche Gerüchte zu Microsofts nächstem Windows-OS mit Codenamen Treshold hoch, das als Windows 9 vermutlich Anfang 2015 vorgestellt wird. Windows 9 soll ohne Charms-Bar, dafür aber mit virtuellen Desktops kommen.
