How does a hydronic heating cooling system work in buildings?

Hello everyone,

I recently came across the term hydronic heating cooling system while reading about modern HVAC setups in residential and commercial buildings. From what I understand, these systems use water to transfer heat through a network of pipes, radiators, or floor tubing to warm or cool indoor spaces.

Hot water from a boiler or heat pump can be circulated for heating, while chilled water can absorb heat from rooms to provide cooling.

I'm curious about how common these systems are compared to traditional air-based HVAC systems. Are they mainly used in large buildings, or are they becoming more common in homes as well?

Would love to hear your thoughts or experiences with this type of system.
