Wow! So surprising, considering Microsoft's marketing budgets and countless contracts with governments! Sarcasm aside, Windows has been going downhill for a decade now. Indeed, the push to AI bundled with the increased tracking and cutting out older hardware that's alienating a lot of people and pushing them to look for alternatives. That said, I wouldn't call Linux a magic pill that solves all of the problems with Windows, in fact, there are many features that are half-assed and not many bring it to attention, I'm talking about things like security often being an afterthought with most distributions not bringing in a good and easy enough to use firewall like OpenSnitch so apps can connect anywhere they want how often they want, not everything can be adjusted in a GUI (And no need to tell me to use the terminal, I can use it, but ask yourself: can your mom and dad learn it and do they need to?), fragmentation and bloat are also a rising issue with people distrohopping because they can't find something that works well enough and handles their usecases. Sometimes I wonder if eventually, Linux will become enshittified like Windows or act as a sort of Windows-Lite to the point of MS building the next Windows on top of it and if it makes more sense to start exploring BSDs instead. We'll see about that if Linux eventually reaches 10% of all desktop devices share.
