Power via light beam: Japanese system delivers a 16-foot range with infrared LEDs

Researchers in Tokyo have developed a system that uses a camera-guided infrared LED beam to wirelessly power small photovoltaic cells at distances of up to 16 feet – even when the target is moving and regardless of ambient light conditions. Although the technology is still relatively inefficient, it shows strong potential for powering IoT sensors in the future.
