Dying Light: The Beast is facing censorship in Japan. To meet the country's content guidelines, the developers had to make changes to the global version and tone down the gore.

QuoteTo make the game available to Japanese audiences ... they had to remove certain details, such as missing faces and torso models, and make changes to the appearance of female infected models.

I kinda understand it. In fact the violence and brutality did also put me off - even when only watching trailers and gameplays. Can't do that anymore.

Yet I think the censorship should be an *optional* menu setting.

From what I've seen, you've got lots of choice on how to navigate in the world. If you despise violence, you can probably avoid most of it by focusing on a runner-parcour-hide-and-seek playstyle. Maybe later get a gun and snipe out only the zombies you need. So there's no need for brutally hacking & slashing through. There surely are some scripted events with forced fights, but other than that you maybe can play quite peacefully?
