Instead of arriving with a preconditioned battery at Chicago area Supercharger stations, a lot of Tesla drivers spent up to 45 minutes just warming it up for subsequent charging. Recurrent's analysis of EV charging behavior during the ongoing Arctic blast in the US claims it has found the main culprit for the delays.

So you must drive around in the cold to preconditions your battery.

Riiiight. Reading the manual would somehow get past the limitation of the product.

You cannot get around this limitation on lion batteries. The same thing happened in Canada and it was reported on notebookcheck.
You need to precondition the batteries. And it could be the fault of the driver if they just drove to the charger without setting first that they intend to charge. They could start the preconditioning at home and drive off when it is ready.
But if you have a completely empty battery then there's nothing you can do. It will triple the charging time. Couple that with increased demand and you will have charger congestion.
One needs to be aware of that when buying an EV.
