Chinese smartphone OEMs like Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo apparently demanded the development of a 200 MP sensor by the end of 2020, but Samsung could only offer 150 MP for that specific time-frame. The upcoming sensor is supposed to offer 1 inch of effective pixel area, and will integrate Samsung's Nonacell technology with 1:9 pixel binning.

lmao, I thought Panasonic's choice of sensor size was a stupid decision largely due to the technological restraints of the software and ISP at the time, it resulted in a thick phone even by today's standards with a retracting (breaks water resistance) slow f/2.8 lens after all. It'll be interesting to see what's possible in a smartphone with a 1" CMOS after more than half a decade, but what's certain is software is still more than half the equation, as we can see 108MP doesn't yield favorable results with subpar processing, neither will 150MP.
