Microsoft has claimed its Snapdragon X-powered Surface lineup is over 50% faster than Apple's M3 MacBook Air in a recent briefing attended by The Verge, and also demonstrated battery tests to prove the Surface's efficiency prowess. In both departments, the Surface appears to be taking the lead, but with Apple's single-core leadership and a 4-year head start, there is more to this rivalry than meets the eye.

On microsoft.com battery runtimes are lower:

Surface Laptop 13.8" :
Up to 20 hours of local video playback
Up to 13 hours of active web usage

Surface Laptop 15":
Up to 22 hours of local video playback
Up to 15 hours of active web usage

Claims are not worth a damn. Let's wait for in dependent and competent testing by third parties. I trust Microsoft as much as I trust Musk and Trump.

I highly doubt Microsoft expects this to be a major success right out of the gate.  I sure hope it does though.  Getting sick and tired of Intel's monopolistic practices.

I doubt it will last two hours on a page with lots of interactive js elements updating at the same time

These are very good numbers and we can only hope Snapdragon X delivers in real-world usage with retail units. However, Lunar Lake and Strix Point are right around the corner and will have powerful iGPUs and battery life that might match or even beat these numbers...all with the advantage of legacy and boutique software and driver compatibility.

Id like to know how its gaming performance will be, and how it stacks up in terms of performance to AMD's integrated RDNA3/4

"Microsoft has claimed its Snapdragon X-powered Surface lineup is over 50% faster than Apple's M3 MacBook Air"

No, MS is claiming a *UNFOUNDED* victory FROM SOMEONE ELSE'S **DESIGNED TECH**, NOT MS's in-house design's chip. 😏

Build your own in-house chip, FIRST, MS before stating such an ignorant / playground claim. 👎

You mean like how apple silicon is ARM designs built on TSMC fabs?

90% of processor performance gains are process technology, not really chip design.

YUP!

'Cause Microslop is not known, not only here, for highjacking others TRUE INNOVATION in MS's other tech segments by taking the credit of others TRUE tech innovation by just revising the name of it and just slap a MS's stupid name on it, huh?! e g. MS's Design aka OpenAi's DALL-E 3 , ect., right?!

Gotcha! 😏

If it has performance and battery life comparable with M2, I'll buy one.

It's a pity it can't be as freely configured as Mac (for 13" memory is limited to 16GB, 1TB SDD is limited to black color, at least in MS store for my country - why?!).
