I've seen similar issues when using non-Dell laptops with Dell docks. It often comes down to power settings or GPU switching. Try setting the lid close action to "do nothing" and check if your dock has the latest firmware. Also worth forcing the NVIDIA GPU for external displays in the control panel — that usually helps.

I recently acquired an Asus ROG Strix G17 laptop, which is great, and I've been using it with the Dell docking station I use for work, along with 3 monitors. Generally I have been using only the monitors, and the laptop is closed on a tray on the side of the desk. There is, in my opinion, some odd behaviors, and I am not sure if it is a setting I'm overlooking, software conflicting with each other, or something with the dock.
