The Unagi (Model One) scooter is one of our favourite eScooters of 2019. It has a beautiful design, compact frame, nimble handling and two torquey motors. However, It is also worth mentioning that its price point is premium, sitting at around $1450. In comparison, this is twice as much as our entry-level offerings such as the Xiaomi M365. But for the money, we certainly think it brings value, and here's why;

Ride Quality:
There are many elements that add to a quality riding experience - not just power and battery life. The Unagi has a unique feel to it - It has a rigid chassis that you appreciate the moment you get on it. It doesn't flex, or wobble, it rides over surfaces comfortably with great stability. The handlebars are rigid; joins are seamless; every part has been engineered to fit tightly in the next.

The Specs:
The Unagi Model One utilises a dual-motor electrical system. Providing high torque, allowing for excellent hill-climbing ability. For comparison, it smashes the Xiaomi M365 and Segway ES2 in this category, but about matches the Xiaomi M365 Pro. Unfortunately, battery life is superior in the M365 Pro, with the Unagi tested for about 20km and the M365 Pro at about 40km. (Range slightly higher as advertised - in perfect conditions).

Outstanding features:
The Unagi's dual-motor system is unique, and brings great benefit, apart from lots of power up hills, it provides solid traction, and also very strong regenerative braking - in fact, the smoothest and strongest one we have seen on any electric scooter! The frame & design are neat and stylish. The LED dashboard showing speed and battery life looks premium, and would probably be the best speedometer out of any scooter we have seen before. The tyres are puncture-free and give a refined ride. However, our favourite feature is its size and weight. For a scooter with such impressive specs, it certainly doesn't compromise. It is light enough to carry up long flights of stairs, skinny enough to walk into shops and compacts down enough to leave under a desk at work. The Unagi fantastically balances versatility and features.

The Downsides:
The Unagi's battery life is lower than its competition, and for its high price point, some would expect a much larger capacity. Unagi have told us their priorities are focused on versatility and weight. In comparison, the Xiaomi M365 Pro is nearly $400 cheaper, yet features a battery 20km longer.

The Bottom Line: The Unagi Model One is designed for inner-city commuters, who don't need a long battery range, but rather, less weight, and smaller size. The Unagi achieves this without compromise on power and quality. The Unagi's price point, design and ultimate package we think make it the 'Porsche' of electric scooters -expensive, but worth it for those who appreciate its value.

These were some of the notable and unique features of the Unagi e-scooter that we wanted to discuss in today's post. The model is also competitively priced and is affordable in comparison to the rest of the high-end models which feature similar specifications. If you would like a test drive of the model before buying it, then you must head over to our shop located in Pyrmont.
