Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet 2018 (i5, 3K-IPS) Convertible Review

Lenovo has completely reworked the ThinkPad X1 Tablet, which now includes a larger touchscreen, two Thunderbolt 3 ports and much faster CPUs. This has the caveat that these faster chips have to be actively cooled now. Is the third generation of the ThinkPad X1 Tablet a solid and complete package, or does it have some significant weaknesses?

I have the i7 model. Everything is fine except one small problem which probably exists on the i5 one: after a couple of months with the device, the screen's upper layer is scratched by the middle trackpad button. Probably due to the friction between the keyboard and the screen when the keyboard is closed. Has anyone else a similar issue?

"Witcher 3" for example runs with roughly 30 FPS at high settings.

As the test shows, these stats are for "Bioshock Infinite", while "Witcher 3" runs with roughly 13 FPS at low settings.

No, the text is correct. This sentence is about the Lenovo GPU dock with the GeForce GTX 1050. With it attached, Witcher 3 runs with high-settings at 30 FPS.

From the Lenovo forum thread on the issue with the screen coating, it seems that everybody has the same problem. I thought I was just the unlucky one. It's amazing that Lenovo blames the keyboard! Their own keyboard! I imagine what would happen if I was using the stylus, too.

I have the i7 8650u and my CB15 multi-core benchmark seems to average out at approx. 550 .. So definitely not as bad as mentioned in this article ...

Thanks for your exhaustive review. I bought this device on Nov, 2018 with a 38% off. It works great but with some small issues.

1. The pen I got is Lenovo Active Pen (GX80K32882), and it's plastic tip is too slippery on the glass surface. And I can't find any information about the Lenovo Pen Pro you mentioned in the review. Could you please provide the part number of it or a link to the product? Thanks.

2. The anti-reflective coating on this device has the same issue with MBP series, which is very fragile. It began to fall off just days after I got the device.

3. The BIOS in this device doesn't provide a S3 option for Linux like X1 Carbon, which will cause it failed on sleep while running Linux.

i have another negative for this product, you have limited choice on power banks to keep working with that small battery without having to plug on a wall.

It seems that the reviewed device got a different RAM die from my device.
The die used in this device is MT52L1G32D4PG, made by Micron, which has two variant, MT52L1G32D4PG-093 at 2133Mb data rate and MT52L1G32D4PG-107 at 1866Mb. Mine is the 1866 one, and the 16GB version in the Lenovo US eStore is also marked as 1866Mb. So is Lenovo using a better die on a special version of X1 Tablet 3rd?

According to HWInfo, mine is -107, but is running at 1867.  i7, 16GB.
