About half a year ago, the Pro version of the MateBook X gave us a good impression with its Intel Core i5-8250U. Today's review update will take a look at the Core i7-8550U version, which also features a GeForce MX150. Find out what buyers can expect from this model in our review.

I am no Apple fan, but with this price, I would buy a MacBook before than a Huawei, honestly.

I have never seen such an outstanding review. Extremely professional.

I'm super curious on Huawei's pricing strategy. Interestingly, in the US market, the price is only at $1,499 and it comes with 16GB of RAM :o. In contrast, in the European market, the price is 1,800 Euro with just 8GB of RAM.  ::) ???

big flaw in the i7 logic...

the i7 is the only model with > 8 GB ram (16) so if you need more RAM, then the i7 model is worth it.

Everywhere is written how good that one display.
I have it and telling you frankly i m not satisfy, white color is not white. there is too much of red, and doesn't matter how much harmonize it. And eyes get tired so fast. Im not sure that this LPTS display so cool..

Best review I have ever seen on a pc.

The section on audio quality is a bit hard to understand.

As an audio engineer, I measure heavy distortion peaking around 5-600 Hz, and a lack of bass compared to my old Samsung ativ 9+ of 2013. Huawei's sound system concept is good, but a revision is needed regarding the physical configuration of the speakers in the chassis, and most likely, they need to replace the "woofer" with a better one. As it seems, the distortion is related to mechanical vibration "below the keyboard", so there is a need to isolate the woofer from the chassis, mechanically speaking.

It is deeply disappointing that the i7 model does not outperform the i5 model. This is bordering on being a scam. Hopefully, Huawei's bluff will be disclosed by this and forthcoming reviews so that Huawei can present an update of BIOS or whatever it takes to remove this much unwanted processor trotling (when doing heavy task as software compilation).

What is VERY ODD, is that the smooth scrolling of the mentioned Samsung laptop is completely smooth, while it is disappointingly "staggering" on this Huawei. On a i7 machine with dedicated Nvidia GPU? Hard to believe even when you see it exposed. I mean, at this price level.

Beyond these remarks, this laptop is great.

Great review, but as someone else also mentioned in the comments section, I disagree that the step up from the i5 to the i7 is unwarranted for the price. The chip difference is small but adds up with other factors, such as a more stable turbo boost from the i7 vs i5 (mentioned in the review.) Also, the discrete GeForce graphics adds performance; even though it is a power-efficient variant of the MX150, it is significantly more powerful than the integrated Intel HD graphics in the i5 model. Add to that a doubling of the SSD and double the RAM - and all for only a $300 (USD) increase - the i7 version of the X Pro is the better value in my opinion.
