The most controversial design element of the iPhone X has now been embraced by Oppo, and by default, OnePlus for their next flagship smartphones. Both the Oppo R15 and the OnePlus 6 will both feature a "me too" notch when they arrive in the coming months.

Welcome to the land of fake innovation!

The notch only brings technical issues without any benefit (because you have to manage the non-rectangular resolution on the software side)

And this follows:

* 2:1 ratio screens, which are goddamn awful for browsing and photos...
* bezel-less screens, which was initially a good idea, but when you don't even let 1 millimeter on the sides, you end-up breaking your touchscreen at the smallest fall of the smartphone, and software has to manage undesired touches on the sides when you hold the phone, which is a pain for developpers.
* jack output removal. Does it make the phones slimmer: no, because you still need a decent battery to power these oversized cpu they're selling. And you cannot charge your phone and listen to music at the same time, and you have to rely on an adapter including a dac chip to listen to music.
* multiple lens for photos/videos. Having 2 did help for focal length reasons, but beyong this, this is becoming pure marketing...

All in all, this market has known very little innovation that actually make users life easier.
It's all done to sell new phones every year, and Chinese manufacturers gladly copy everything without ever wondering if it is going to help selling or not.

What a sad market this has become...
