Stylish and noble, but still a bit buggy. The new VivoBook is supposed to be the more affordable ZenBook sibling for the mainstream. Is it a success, or did Asus cut too many corners?

The price of the Vivobook is indeed ridiculous. It's almost as expensive as the UX550VD, which is a better device in every way.

I scoured amazon for a laptop with these specs and could not find anything better.  What would you recommend then that has the same specs and does not cross $1300

I actually own this model, and the performance is quite OK. The fans are atrocious, though. I was thinking about undervolting the CPU, also changing the thermal paste on the CPU, hope that might improve a bit the fan problem . BTW, I did not have problems removing the back panel to install another 2.5in SSD.

Thank you very much for the in-depth review. I live in South Korea, the model being sold here is N580VD-FY375 / i7-7700HQ / DDR4 16GB / M.2 SSD 256GB / HDD 1 TB / GTX 1050 4GB / IPS Display. Price is US$ 1275.
(NB: alternatively, I can get a cheaper model with only 8GB of RAM and no 1TB of HDD for US$ 1100).
Is this still worth buying now? Or is there any better options?

I was looking into MSI GP62M-7REX and some other laptops with similar specs but not really keen on the black-red gamer aesthetics and these gaming laptops are bulkier and heavier than the VivoBook Pro (3 cm vs 2 cm thick; 2.3 kg++ vs 2 kg-ish).

I don't really play games but I love to watch movies and do some occasional photo & video editing. As for the battery issue in VivoBook Pro, I don't mind since most of the time I will be plugged in anyway. Thank you in advance!

I would wager the poor performance while running in battery mode to be due to a lack in current capability from the small battery.

In all likelihood, it's probably unable to supply anything more than 60-80W.

If you want something with a good display quality stay away from this model. The used TN panel is low quality as described in the review. Resolution is good, but viewing angles are just very bad. Color, contrast and brightness all are average at best.

I´ll look for a notebook for architecture's apps, foe exemple autocad and photoshop, and I would like to kwon if this computer is enough. Thanks!

Hi guys,

Thanks for this detailes review.
One question: Do you know if Asus fixed some or all of the shown errors, have there been new firnware releases?
If so, I would love to know how the notebook performs now.

Thanks a lot in advance :)
