The Leica M11 had only one competitor until now, but the French company must now cease operations. Following a court-ordered liquidation, Pixii will no longer be able to manufacture, sell, or repair cameras.

I'm going into my fifth year of Pixii ownership, it's my most-used camera, and I've learned to tame its quirks and get beautiful results from it, so it's frustrating to see this happen. While the tough economy, supply-chain problems, and the unavoidably high price of the product undoubtedly played a role in its downfall, there's another factor that can't be ignored: consistent hostility from the photo-puditocracy. Anyone who got curious about the Pixii and did a web search was greeted by a barrage of negative coverage, such as the GxAce video linked here, and the hatchet-job "review" (based on two hours of using a borrowed camera) served up by Chris Niccolls of PetaPixel. A big company can survive this sort of thing (and can head it off in the first place by keeping tech bros happy with cushy press trips, staged events, and free goods) but a small company can't. Online photography culture has gotten too concentrated in the hands of a few widely-followed influencers whose only real expertise is cranking out content that the search algorithms like, and who can't be bothered to take the time to understand a genuinely innovative product.
