HP HyperX Omen 15 review: 85 W GeForce RTX 5070 can feel underwhelming

[Redaktion]

The HyperX Omen 15 leaves quite the impression with its dense build, sharp keyboard, relatively cool temperatures, and glossy 3K OLED display. However, the limited GPU options can feel underpowered.

Doesn't LENOVO sell a 12 GB VRAM 5070 (using 3GB GDDR7 memory chips, instead of the current 2GB ones)? I just looked (15IAX11) and it's "$3,165.99" for a 12 GB 5070 (1TB SSD and 32GB RAM as well)..crazy..nevermind then.

2000 bucks (and taxes still on top?) for 8 GB VRAM just to have these issue: youtube.com/watch?v=ric7yb1VaoA ("Gaming Laptops are in Trouble - VRAM Testing w/ ‪@Hardwareunboxed‬")?

If you have to travel with a gaming laptop, ok, I guess, otherwise you could get a desktop PC for gaming and an iGPU-only laptop to travel with (MacBook Air) (and if you travel to some new place, the last thing you'd want to do is gaming).

3dmark.com/search Steel Nomad (some desktop PC build GPUs suggestions):
this / 5070 Laptop/Mobile (8 GB VRAM): Average score: 3009
5060 Ti desktop (16 GB VRAM version): Average score: 3617
4070 desktop (12 GB VRAM): Average score: 3852 <- since this is not 50 series, you could also see if a used one is cheaper.
5070 desktop (12 GB VRAM): Average score: 5329

Jarrod'sTech did a recent comparison: youtube.com/watch?v=RfNhVDS_QFo ("RTX 5070 12GB vs 8GB - Is 12GB VRAM Worth More $$$?") and the comparison and suggestion at the end of the video is interesting.

Gaming laptops should be large and heavy.

Was HPs 'cool and quiet' software running or did you install fresh windows on a new nvme and test without manufacturers bloat?
