OpenAI sets a cookie called __obi on ChatGPT, keeps it for a year and ties it to your account. Visit a site that buys ChatGPT ads and your browser hands that identifier back to OpenAI along with what you were looking at. OpenAI's own cookie policy files it under analytics. Here is what travels with it and what you can switch off.
