Writing an operating system from scratch is a huge undertaking, with most hobby kernels never escaping a virtual environment. MesaOS recently crossed that barrier, cold-booting an independent, memory-safe Rust based operating system directly on a retail laptop.

Hi,
Please be careful with the repo:
1) Rust still needs to use "unsafe" to make hardware calls, so it reduces the probability of having issues but there are parts of the code that are not memory managed.
2) The repo is vibe coded by a 14 year old, it is written in the Readme.md, thanks to his honesty, so there should be concerns if the author understands what he is actually doing purely relying on LLMs.
