BOSGAME VTA-439 review: Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 is a great fit for mini PCs

Bosgame is back with a striking new industrial design for its latest mini PC equipped with the latest AMD Zen 5c Gorgon Point processor. It may be a little big, but it supports more SSD slots than most competitors.

I wanted to argue that its size makes up for either noise or temperature vs the same HX 370 (HX 470 is just a rename, aka refresh), and while in noise, it's about the same for Cyberpunk 2977:

GMK EVO-X1 (HX 370): 44.4

, the temperature on the GMK EVO-X1 (HX 370) is still much better: 65 °C vs 78 °C.

VTA-439 vs EVO-X1, performance is about the same (since the HX 470 is a rename (aka refresh) of the HX 370).

The BOSGAME VTA-439 is also 57.8% larger by volume (this is the "relatively large" part, I guess): 1.578 = (154*152*50)/(110*107*63).

The BOSGAME VTA-439 is also 28% heavier (764/595). Not that it's an important metric, but it doesn't help the cooling and/or temperatures either.

The BOSGAME VTA-439 is also more expensive.

What is going on?

In Cyberpunk 2077 ultra external monitor (unplayable at 28 FPS), the VTA-439 is 12% faster [than the EVO-X1], but consumes 39.6% more energy (101.2/72.5).
This makes the EVO-X1 24% more energy efficient ((25.1 FPS/72.5 Watt)/(28.2 FPS/101.2 Watt), (if the taken FPS and Watt numbers are about the same test case)).

So this may explain it (a TDP beyond the sweet spot reduces energy efficiency).

If you care about running LLMs locally and privately:
The GMK EVO-X1's RAM memory bandwidth is 28% higher, which equals 28% faster token generation, but its memory is soldered, so you may want to get at least a 48 GB RAM/unified memory configuration, if such a config is available.
