The Apple M5 Pro and Apple M5 Max have been shown off alongside the new MacBook Pro models. Both chips get a much-needed CPU core count increase, with the M5 Max supporting more RAM than its predecessor.

I posted this in the other article but just to repeat:

The old Performance cores are indeed rebranded as Super cores, but the new Performance cores are NOT the same as the old Efficiency cores. Rather they represent a new middle core design.

So under the new nomenclature the A19 has 2 S-cores and 4 E-cores, the base M5 has 4 S-cores and 6 E-cores, while the M5 Pro/Max has up to 6 S-cores and 12 P-cores.

QuoteApple will likely keep the single-core performance crown, and the extra CPU cores could help it bridge the gap with AMD Strix Halo.

In most native benchmarks the M4 Max is already faster than the Strix Halo.

I suppose if you're comparing the Strix Halo to the Pro-tier CPU then indeed the extra cores help close the gap.
