What does Dell offer us for 1000 euros?

As usual, a lousy keyboard with terrible tactile feedback and the likelihood of the keyboard failing with intensive use within 2-3 years, or even earlier.

Huge weight, but at the same time an extremely cheap cooling system, which leads to a disproportionately large noise that you would not expect from a model with such weight and such weak hardware inside.

Poor placement of ports - RJ45 should be at the back and at 2.5Gbps, because... it is built into the SoC. Also extremely disappointing is the lack of TB4 ports - goodbye 4k@144-165Hz monitors in lossless mode, because... Today they can only be connected via a TB4 port. There are simply no monitors with full HDMI 2.1 (FRL6 mode) on the market.

The screen, in principle, is well balanced in terms of color reproduction and its accuracy, as well as contrast, but everything is ruined by the rotten 16:9, instead of 16:10. And of course low ppi, due to the obsolete fhd resolution, instead of at least 4k(3840x2400)@120Hz. But for this price you probably shouldn't expect more, taking into account the 4050. Although I would prefer a price of 1100-1150 euros but a 4k@120-144Hz 16-17" 16:10 screen, instead of this outdated panel in terms of resolution and aspect ratio.

Of course, there's not enough RAM (they could have installed at least one 16-bit slot, instead of the idiotic 8+8). At least an experienced buyer would immediately add a cheap second one for 16 and close the issue of lack of RAM for at least 1.5-2 years.

The SSD is too small, even for this price.

The webcam is a shameful 720p, which will not suit anyone at all in 2024.

I think at sales it will sell for 800 euros, but not more, because, taking into account the required upgrade right away, the price will still be at least 1050-1100 euros after replacing the memory with 32GB (2x8 will just have to be thrown out, i.e. because, you can't sell them to anyone today, unless of course you find somewhere to put them) and installing a 2TB SSD with at least a 2GB DRAM buffer.

Can anyone explain to me why there is a 4kg laptop at home (with a power supply, because without a power supply it immediately turns into a pumpkin in terms of operating speed) with a small 15.6" 16:9 screen, instead of an 18" 4k@120Hz?

Why do we even need models on the market with 15.6" and such a terrible weight that does not provide anything in practice (such as the Dell G5 5587 - which is completely silent until medium load and then only after careful optimization of the system and undervolting) to the home consumer in terms of comfort?

With this weight, 15.6-16" models are not needed at all. It's time to stop producing them, Dell, leaving only 17-18" 16:10 with 4k IPS panels for the home or office. Naturally, changing the keyboard to a full-fledged one with a wide key travel of at least 1.8 mm and an elastic response and full-size keys.

Gerne. Ich benutze mein Notebook zu 90% als platzsparenden, portablen Desktopersatz. Hauptsächlich am Tisch, der auch als Esstisch genutzt wird. Er muss also platzsparend (nicht in der Höhe/Dicke, aber in der Grundfläche und mobil sein) und gelegentlich wird es ins Büro mitgenommen und häufig auf der Couch/ im Bett.

4kg sind bei diesen Anforderungen kein Problem. Ein 15,6 oder besser 16 Zoll Notebook bekommt man in jede Notebooktasche, egal ob es 2cm oder 2,7cm dick ist. Ein 18 Zoller ist hingegen sehr groß und nimmt auf Schreib/Esstisch deutlich mehr Platz ein, passt nicht in jede Notebooktasche und ist auf der Couch und im Bett auch sehr sperrig.


@ Dell: Bitte hört nicht auf NikoB. Er gehört unter jedem Gamingnotebooktest zu den ersten Kommentatoren, nur um den Hersteller zu beleidigen und sich zu beschweren, dass Gaminglaptops zu langsam und/oder zu laut sind.

Jetzt bringt Dell ein Notebook, das eine gute Kühlung beinhaltet, die 4050 am Limit betreibt und für 1080p schnell genug ist und trotzdem nicht störend laut wird, und dann passt es ihm wieder nicht.

Einem Kritikpunkt muss ich mich aber anschießen. Das Netzteil ist inakzeptabel. Warum Dell jedem Notebook diesen hässlichen Backstein beilegt ist mir ein Rätsel. Es gibt 4090 Notebooks, die kleinere Netzteile haben! Ein dickeres Notebook hat den Vorteil einer leiseren Kühlung. Ein dickeres Netzteil hat keinen Vorteil.

You write nonsense, a priori. For a simple reason - if a mass buyer is ready to carry a coffin weighing 2.8 kg + 1.53 kg PSU, there is no problem taking a 3.5 kg 18" with the same PSU and carrying it to the car.

The mass consumer will NOT carry a 4kg+ device in any backpack or bag.

On a bed or sofa, 18" is ideal - there is no problem with the dimensions when you are reclining next to each other. If you have a full-fledged keyboard. The eye area is much larger. The same thing is on the table - I'm very sorry that your table is for children. I have a big. =)

You asked if anyone could explain why someone would buy a laptop like the Dell G15 and Gastredner answered it with his personal requirements. Volle Zustimmung. Mir sind 18 Zoll ebenfalls zu großflächig, aber ein 16er mit unter 3 cm und 3 kg (ohne Netzteil) für leisere Kühlung ist ausreichend mobil für mich. Das riesige Netzteil schmälert unnötig den Mobilitätsfaktor.

The masses need an 18" 4k@120-144Hz (IPS/1500:1+) with a 7940HS without a discrete card and a full-fledged keyboard. As a working solution for home. But they don't exist! And this is very sad.
Building laptops on Intel with a power consumption of 130-150W in PL2 is pure madness. But Intel's SoC production volume is 5 times larger than AMD's, which also blocks new supplies to the market in order to maintain high prices.

We are at an impasse as consumers. And we have no choice.
There is no hope that someone will make a full-fledged series with a full-fledged keyboard convenient for long-term high-speed typing and development, with 18" 4k 16:10 screens and a normal layout and set of ports (which squeeze everything possible out of the SoC). Because Such laptops are NOT replaced every 2-3 years, and this is exactly what greedy manufacturers need in order to regularly earn their bread with black caviar...

I understand that creating the most comfortable and most balanced laptops for work and home is directly contrary to the interests of corporations and their key owners.

Therefore, I will continue to methodically tear down their worthless models - pointing out to inexperienced potential buyers all their shortcomings.
