sounds like a nothingburger, those don't make much sense anymore, might as well put a nvme one in a sata enclosure if you want to slow it down.

Well, generally, SATA ssds are cheaper, and a good way to give life to an old computer. NVME+stat enclouser is going to cost you more, especially if that enclosure needs to be pci/nvme m2 support and not sata m2

Of course samsung themselves weren't ever known for cheap ssds.

In practice, the need for SATA devices is not about to disappear.

Many professionals and individuals need large amounts of storage space to store photos, music, videos, or make backups... It's not just gamers who need computer equipment!

Personally, I only have a single 4TB M.2 SSD for my OS (Debian 13). In addition to that, I have two 16TB SATA hard drives and a SATA DVD/Blu-ray burner.

M.2 SSDs are far too limited in storage capacity and their retail price is much too high compared to platter drives. And unfortunately, there are no affordable 16 GB 2.5-inch SATA SSDs available, otherwise I would have already bought two to replace my platter drives...

What is certain is that manufacturers are charging far too high prices, particularly in the SSD sector ;-( As a result, they are preventing themselves from selling their products in large quantities...

Could also be due to the fact that NVMe is king now and that most people who still need a SATA SSD will be fine picking one of the many no-name options on Amazon.
