GAC Group has completed China's first production line for automotive-grade all-solid-state batteries with over 60 Ah capacity, potentially doubling vehicle range to over 620 miles. This positions GAC as the first manufacturer to achieve large-capacity solid-state battery production capability.

When we see a manufacturer produce in the millions, please do give an update.  You know, the masses, the people who actually buy these cars?

Please also post about the upcoming teleportation trials in 2135.

This stuff was actually hilarious to read, thanks for the quote 😁👍

Well... yes and no.
We are no longer "5 years away" every year.
Now we have the 1st lines of actual production in the coming months, so the highest-end cars will start using them (in China, obviously, as western countries/companies are quite a bit behind on this). And when capacity improves, and other brands start catching up, and prices start going down, then less expensive cars will start using them, until they trickle down to normal cars.

Think of the airbag: it used to be for highest-end cars, and now even the Dacia Sandero has them!

Quotefigures are based on China's CLTC test cycle, which typically yields ranges about a third higher than EPA estimates, suggesting a real-world range of approximately 650-750km (400-465 miles)

That is quite an important point, in reality it is 400-465 miles range, not 620. While still decent, not exactly revolutionary, it is about same as current batteries, maybe even slightly less. But in theory solid state should be safer (even though current batteries are already much safer than ICE but the more safer the better)

These figures are well behind CATL's and BYD's solid state offering said to be arriving in 2027-2028, already at 600Wh/kg and 1400km range.

I wish that these articles would stop using some obscure measurements for the battery improvement. The eventual car range means nothing as different EVs have different battery sizes. And now this article introduces an "aerial capacity" that is 50% better to some arbitrary "conventional battery". And that "double" capacity likely refers to the potential capacity improvement of SSBs vs LFPs.
But overall this is good news.
