QuoteIn the Geekbench 6 multi-core test, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 significantly outperforms its Apple counterpart.
15% (Xiaomi 17) to 21% (Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 -- QUALCOMM's own test device) is nice.
29% faster in 3DMark / Wild Life Extreme Unlimited than iPhone 17 is solid.
But WTH is this?:
QuoteThis compact mobile phone is a very good choice for browsing the internet, despite the rather poor results in browser benchmarks.
You say it yourself: These are super disappointing and unexpected results for this, newest and fastest, highest tier, smartphone SOC. In all the tested browsing benchmarks, the iPhone 17 scores 2-3x higher (Mozilla Kraken 1.1: 634.81 ms vs iPhone 17' 263.1 ms). Also the Xiaomi 17 scores much lower than older SoCs and e.g. the Xiaomi 15 scores 12% to 65% higher and 635 ms vs 454 ms for the Xiaomi 15. Why? Let's see if other phones with this SD 8 Elite Gen 5 SOC score this unexpectedly low, but I don't expect it, implying the Xiaomi 17 has a bug that slows it down, missing libraries or if it's on purpose for whatever reason(s) (power consumption and therefore heat being an issue?, artificial market segmentation?, ?).
QuoteThe Qualcomm SoC's power consumption is slightly more power-hungry at idle than its predecessor, the Xiaomi 17.
21% to 34% is
not "slightly": Ask AI for which % increase the word "slightly" can be used (try lmarena.ai), it's mostly for single percentages increases, and borderline when it's close to a 10% increase. You might call it "slightly" at a 10% increase, because it's the idle measurement, but that's still about it.
