Full-frame mirrorless cameras in a compact package are nothing new, but the brand-new Panasonic Lumix S9 looks like it might be a bit of a shake-up in the camera industry — it may even rival the likes of the Fujifilm X100VI for the crown of compact camera king.

Camera bodies don't have to be huge and heavy (don't forget COSTLY!!).

Over the years it has come down to 3 things:

- Larger sensors generally have less noise and are more sensitive in low light
- DOF & FOV the required glass for replicating ether or both from the larger format camera systems in the smaller format systems is generally non-existent
- It is all about the available glass. While bodies will come and go some mounts have WAY more lens selection and competition then others.

This article completely misses that as attractive as the Lumix S9 is on many aspects, something that will limit it for a group within photography is the fact it lacks a mechanical shutter. This means rolling shutter effects while panning and potential banding at night.

I am surprised this article missed that.

It would def. be interesting as this camera gets offers and down pricing, will sure put pressure, but this is not a camera aimed at everyone, but mainly the so called "content creators." IT's more video than photos.

Also keep in mind how expensive and big full frame lenses get as you climb the telephoto scale.

What a disgrace in 2024 - there is no 60fps in 6k or even 4k and there is not even support for recording in 4:2:2.. Who needs this garbage from Panasonic at a price that is at least 2 times inflated? Why pay so much? Video bloggers don't need this, photographers don't either.
