Tesla may eschew some of its design and range staples to reach the $20,000 price point of its cheapest EV. The Tesla Model 2, however, is not expected to hit the desired production rate before 2027.

Is this announcement come from the same guy that promised Tesla truck for 40k with long range and arrive 2 years ago ?

This is frankly what the EV space needs to be successful.  My view is that EVs are currently best as city cars for frequent short trips and the size and price point need to reflect that.  EVs have too many compromises, inconveniences, and limitations to be considered more than that at this time.  Perhaps things will eventually change. I would be willing to consider one, particularly if Tesla put a service facility in my metro area.

I doubt that they will ship the Model 2 with no FSD hardware, there is too much upside in selling FSD software. More likely it will have HW3 or perhaps die shrunk HW3. The process lines for HW3 will be very mature by then, the yields are great and the capital costs have been paid for so the chips will be cheap. Moving to a later but still mature node might also make sense because it would reduce the die size, Tesla will do the math and figure out what's cheapest. Same thing for the cameras, HW3 resolution cameras will be very cheap. The FSD software will have to support HW3 for a very long time anyway because there are millions of HW3 cars on the road. The subscription price on the 2 could be lower than it is for the higher end cars but it would still be a significant revenue stream.

The problem with the cybertruck is that it had too many gimmicks. If they make a simple car, there is no reason why they can't make it work

Well my ID-4 gets 250 miles per charg and only costs me $6.10 which means it costs $12.20 at home to travel 500 miles or $2,440 to travel 100,000 vs. $3.26 at 27 miles per gallon costing you $12,185.19 going to a gas station
