I kind of agree with NBC here. The fact that Apple still sells this laptop isn't all that important. If you're even considering the 1st gen Macbook in May 2022, you obviously don't care that much about performance and are buying it for other reasons. It's the YouTube video that went full clickbait first.

That is simply not true.
Let's say I need to buy a laptop NOW. I don't really care when was it 1st released and how old is the SOC. I just care about the end result.

YT video is simply to paint a picture that M1 is not all THAT magical. It's still ahead of everyone else by some margin (in efficiency, and specific workloads), but it's not magic.

Let's not forget pricing, shall we. One is much cheaper than the other, probably because it's a much older model. How much exits their walled is an "end result" most costumers care about -- and in that regard, *very surprisingly*, the M1 in a macbook air does appear to be magic.

This computer doesn't have a visible trackpad, and it has capacitive keys where there is no need or benefit.  How powerful a computer is doesn't matter if it's hard to use. That is why I don't own one of these fancy new M Powered Macbooks. Apple refuses to install a touchscreen, which I use a lot as a programmer and data scientist. Every laptop buyer makes use of a trackpad. For that reason alone, the Mac is better.

Can't believe how many braindead Dell simps are in the comments. Most of you morons even think the comparisons have been made against a macbook pro, whilst they're all about the MBA.

Also MBA has 999 starting price and can get even cheaper in reality. This dell's base model starts at 1300 and at configuration the m1 beats the dell hands down in every aspect.

The 1280 cpu model reviewers have been using isn't even available and costs over 2k . If not nearing the 3k mark.
