The new MacBook Pro has an odd mix of rounded corners at the top, and square ones at the bottom

The new Apple MacBook Pro models are starting to hit customers all around the globe and reports are mostly positive. We have also got our hands on a 14-inch model and have so far been impressed with it but we did spot another display oddity and this time it has nothing to do with the already infamous new notch.

Could you comment on PWM- not the details, just the existence of low freq PWM at all?  This is a deciding factor in whether or not I purchase.  Thanks.

If I remember correctly, the iPad Pro had PWM, but on high frequency.

The "mystifying" reason is surely to keep a nice, even bezel. A sharp corner would not necessarily look nice even if it was possible (personally, I don't care for that look unless the corner happens to be the center of the radius). Since the top portion already contains a notch and is used for a menu bar, it doesn't really harm anything - they already have to accommodate a notch, they can accommodate round corners as well. At the bottom, bezel is a lot thicker and rounding corners would cause unnecessary issues (and it wouldn't look nice either as rounded corners of the lid are far away).

These new MacBooks are such a letdown on several fronts. Bigger, thicker, notch, round corners... I'm glad I didn't sell my 2019 MBP 16" before the unveiling, compared to the 2021 machines it looks like it arrived from the future.

I'm glad I didn't sell my glorfied facebook-machine with mangled keyboard, no ports and massive throttling problems before the unveiling. Compared to the 2021 machines it looks much better on my Instagram feed.
The absolute state of you.

No, my boy. It's powerful enough, it's got more than enough screen real estate (but without a black hole at the top),  it's got the very same keyboard as 2021 (but it looks better), it's thinner, it's lighter and my eyes won't bleed when I look at it several hours a day. Apple have essentially scratched the previous 10 years of design work an are taking you back to 2012.

Well, then stick with your outdated 2019 Intel book. Nice try defending it. The 2016-2019 Macbooks were crap compared to the 2015 and 2021, period. For the stupid sake of thinness, we got butterfly, flexgate, donglehell, thermal issues, but hey, iT LoOkS bEtTeR, yeah my boy.
