Apple is reportedly developing a smart home camera that doesn’t record video

Apple is reportedly developing a cylindrical home camera, code-named J450, that uses AI and facial recognition to identify people and pets and reports activity as text rather than recording video. The camera is designed to pair with Apple's J490 smart home hub, expected as early as October 2026, with the camera itself reportedly due in 2027.

It's been a decade since Apple launched it's Home products and like clockwork it continues to make s*** products. No doubt this will be over priced.

What are they solving here when home video cameras are as cheap as $30? Do they think it's more private if it describes someone being naked instead of video?
