The most obvious, most important factor is not mentioned at all - the price increase.

Something could be said that we no longer need an annual model update unless it's drastically different like the Duo.

Also, the most popular model is the base iPhone - which they have not updated this time around. Watch demand spring up again when that gets updated next year.

And of course, price increase in a down-right crappy economy.

With this phrase, I understand the economic context of the environment, such as increasing living costs, stagnating income, war impacts etc. Independent of all that, the manufacturer can choose to lower, raise or not change MSRPs. (If he raises, he may use economic pressures as escuse.)
