MediaTek's new Helio G99+ keeps the original G99's CPU, GPU, and TSMC N6 process untouched, swapping in LPDDR5X support as Samsung and other DRAM makers wind down LPDDR4X production.

MediaTek aren't the only ones iterating on an existing design. It makes financial sense to over/underclock existing cores and rebrand it than invest in R&D for low-to-midrange processors. Qualcomm is doing the same for some of their chips like the SD695/6s Gen 3/4 Gen 1. Unisoc is also known to rename some old processors to make them seem new. Sucks that we would have to foot the bill and pay more for the same stuff we've had for around 5 years now. Also, G99 is an iterative upgrade over G96 with higher clocks and 6nm process.
