Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt was booed during the University of Arizona's commencement ceremony as graduates reacted sharply to his remarks on artificial intelligence and its growing role in work and society, even as his speech acknowledged widespread fears about AI, jobs, climate, and politics, but urged students to help shape the technology rather than see the future as already decided.

Interesting that they boo'ed him considering he is one of the only tech billionares acknowledging that AI is both a blessing and a curse.

Look at the likes of Elon Musk, he does zero philanthropy in comparison to anyone and works people to the bone like they are dog food.

At least Bill Gates and Eric Schmidt actually have good reputations from the people they work with.

I suggest that they booed because we are all sick of hearing about AI. Everyone knows it is the future, apparently. But they never stop telling us.

Why CEOs of tech companies are giving this speeches? It should be some scientists or astronauts or doctors, not billionaires who has often zero ethical mindset.

It's surprising to me because the majority of people in AZ don't typically vote for their best interests historically speaking. Voting record on supporting military industrial complex wars, super evangelical conservative zionist supporting base, always pretty much voting red and a red state, voted for Trump not just once but twice, etc.

I honestly didn't think they had it in them to boo. But this is a university campus with younger more educated audience. Makes sense I guess.

I think Gates lost any reputation after being involved with someone like Epstein. Also, think you're giving far too much credit to them. If just one of these billionaires have their fair share they could eliminate student debt and make healthcare free in the USA. If all of them gave their fair share they could easily eliminate world hunger and possibly even poverty.

They clearly aren't doing enough. Probably only doing charities for tax avoidance purposes. Then go back to insider stock trading and financially backing companies involved in military wars.

So, this university teaches 19th century style machine destroyers?
They took our jooooobs! :D
