Gaming researcher Michael Pachter isn't hopeful about the next Xbox console. Game Pass will be a focal point of the system, but the Ultimate tier with day-one games strains budgets. Pachter expects the console to fail unless Microsoft makes drastic changes to the subscription service.

Could we please stop posting Xbox news from now on? Xbox is dead. Stop beating a dead horse already. It died over 13 years ago. A number of original co-founders have already voiced their opinions as to the reasons the next generation is so bleak. And they're completely right.

It's not coming back. There is no come back. This is no amd comeback or panther lake fight back story.

It also pisses me off, when MLID puts so much hopium in next gen Xbox Magnus. He's done this before too. There's no way a company that is this invested in AI and copilot is not going to somehow duck it up. Like enforcing some dumb ai chatgpt-like subscription service + gamepass push.

It's gone far beyond that now. It's past the point of redemption. Even if a new CEO came and banned DEI I doubt it'd with change anything. Just like changing US presidents did absolutely nothing. The systematic culture from top down has been corrupted for far too long. There's nobody with any talent left there anymore, as the ones that did left long ago.

Probably why they made leadership changes...

I did not ask for all the extra crap they added to raise prices.

It was a good deal until the last price hike. That prices me out and many others in this economy.

Their corporate greed will be the downfall of a gaming empire I have supported except during the Xbox one years.

ROTFLMAO!!! Truly comical article and comments!!!

So like there are THREE INDIVIDUAL things: Xbox hardware, Individual Game sales and Subscription services.

Offering fairly inexpensive hardware as a 'gateway' to selling Games and Subscription services WAS the model for many years. However the current corporate CEO wishes to be more of a service company then a hardware and/or individual software title publishing company.

While moving 'day1' releases to the subscription service made the services more attractive the subscribers did not make up for the overall loss in individual sales. Hence having to raise the subscription costs to beyond what many consider affordable.

Those that still wished to experience those games could still purchase them individually from MS or others on other platforms.

Considering for many they don't want anything to do with Microsoft ANYTHING, it is no small wonder people are migrating to other platforms and sources.
