Xbox's president of game content and studios, Matt Booty, told The New York Times that it is pursuing a multiplatform strategy and now views competitors as broader entertainment like TikTok and movies rather than rival consoles, as Halo: Campaign Evolved and other former exclusives head to PS5.

With the quality of most modern games like empty world grinds with no story, but in-game marketplaces and poor optimization, no wonder that people prefer to just rot their brain in tiktok.

IMHO: the market has evolved. The focus has shifted from WHAT screen your viewing to "screen time" (IE: how much time a consumer is viewing/consuming MY content!).

Take Mobile for example. There are nearly countless Android & Apple devices in the wild. Many/most mobile releases will run on ETHER platform and an added BONUS is that RARELY is the version/model of the platform or OS an issue on using the content.

Publishers now want to get their content on as many screens as possible. THEN you might have ONE HYPE cycle upon release (vs possibly multiple minor cycles as something gets ported to other devices).

While personally I tend to stick to larger screens, people with much better eye sight than I make use of smaller (IE: Mobile) screens far more than I do.

Recession

Quote from: GeorgeS on Yesterday at 18:21:08the market has evolved.

It certainly has. People can barely afford to pay the heating, water, energy and food bills. Why on earth would they pay thousands for overpriced gaming hardware only to deal with buggy early access unoptimized games?

Doom scrolling only requires a $100 phone in comparison. And you pretty much need a smartphone to access / authentic to most banks these days is it's a necessity.

It's not that the market has evolved it's that none of these gaming corporations seem to have adapted to market conditions. There seems to be a massive disconnect, like they think the economy is doing well just because their stock prices are going up. The economy has crashed. It never recovered. People's wages have been stagnant for decades.

Wondering why people have shifted to social media and online video away from gaming is a bit like asking why nobody has kids anymore. When childcare is so expensive, people are so overworked / stressed out and nobody can afford a place to live, what did you expect would happen?
