Lenovo has updated its ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 and ThinkPad P16s Gen 4 with Intel variants. Now called the ThinkPad P14s i Gen 6 and ThinkPad P16s i Gen 4, the two Intel Arrow Lake-H based machines also feature up to 96 GB RAM, an Nvidia GPU and an optional OLED display.

Too bad that P16s Intel gen4:

- the screen is an OLED touchscreen:
--- higher power consumption than IPS
--- PWM could be a problem for a business laptop
--- add-on film touch visible on bright images

- Battery size limited to 75Wh (same as the 14"), even though there's room for a bit more in the chassis (it's clearly visible that there's unused space beyond the 14" chassis size inside).

On the other hand, P16s AMD Gen4 has an 86Wh battery while the 14" has a 52Wh one. On that model, the extra power consumption of the screen and its size is therefore compensated.
Except it's not possible to get the 4K display with the Ryzen 9 (only limited to 1200p screen..) !

In conclusion, I struggle to understand Lenovo's strategy.

I 100% agree with your whole comment, moe, but this part...

...is fairly easy to understand from Lenovo's perspective; they know that business will buy these laptops, they will most often get used docked to larger and better-quality displays so that meh laptop's 1200p display is fine from that point of view (as it will stay off most of the time).

But yeah, I'm instantly pissed whenever I see a 1200p IPS as the highest available non-OLED option, lol, as I like to primarily use my laptop display. This is pretty much Lenovo's way to force us to buy better "integrated" displays in more expensive laptops, if we want them so badly 😑

3200x2000 IPS is my dream to have, scaled to 1600x1000 at 200% with excellent sharpness and image clarity. It won't happen for cheap with Lenovo, though. For example, that 3072x1920 500 nits 120 Hz IPS in P14s G6 would be a beautiful thing to have, if it wasn't priced as high as it is, meh...

About p14s, I see the 3k screen option (IPS 3072x1920px 120hz) is available in my country for 110€. In which are you ?
