Ugh... this just irks! October's lineup is weak compared to MK2; what a perfect lost opportunity for a smooth, dominant run at the theaters (for weeks... until Avatar releases in December) and just perfect for Halloween. Now it's being pushed to May '26? Has WB lost its mind?
While Mortal Kombat has solid momentum, moving it to May means going head-to-head with the biggest summer blockbusters of the year. The most high-profile films... Marvel/Disney/Pixar, Paramount... typically launch in May, July, and December for a reason; peak audience turnout.
By shifting from a quiet October slot to a crowded summer calendar, WB has traded a chance for MK2 to shine solo for a brutal fight against juggernauts. They've sacrificed a surefire win for a much riskier battle. A major strategic misstep, IMO.
