The planet is on the brink of a climate crisis, while Google gives us unwanted AI search results with every click

Google seems intent on delivering an AI response every time we click "search" whether it's wanted or not, and makes it almost impossible to opt out, highlighting how tech companies are more concerned with telling us what we want, instead of allowing us to choose.

Thanks Google

Thanks Google for giving me the reason to finally switch to DuckDuckGo. Talk about ruining a perfect product with AI slop.

Gotta give it to big corpos promoting free and open-source software by turning their own product into sh*t.

AI will eventually replace search engines—or at least serve as an intermediary to refine queries and interpret results. Integrating AI-generated responses into search result pages is a logical step and a move toward the future.

High energy consumption isn't necessarily a bad thing. It means increased investment in the power generation industry, which is crucial for advancing environmentally friendly and clean energy technologies.

Earth

F*ck the planet. Market cap and shares price is what meters. Later they will just switch to selling us some overpriced air-cooled suits to walk on an overheated planet. And people vote for that with their money, buying new iphone every year..

Ironic coming from a website that uses AI to translate 90% of it's articles into English. I bet half were written with AI, too.

AI search is going to be the only option. More and more websites are using AI to generate nonsense articles filled with words but little content. As AI content floods the internet, regular search is becoming harder and harder.

Unfortunately that is wishful thinking. Most just move the burden onto others. Energy infrastructure doesn't appear overnight, you have to invest in it now, and preferably technologies like solar and wind that can be put up in 2-4 years. But even that 2-4 years isn't going to keep pace with increase use of AI. But so far there has been no such investment. Many AI companies are using misdirection like fusion which is 50-100+ years away from being practical (because it lets them pretend like they are doing something while in reality doing nothing and pushing the burden to others)

Doug is my fucking name

I like the new AI search results. It's better than the ad promoted results, the conspiracy nut results, etc, that I have to sift through normally.

Yes, they could just get rid of those, but given the actual alternative from Google, I like it.
