The Nintendo Switch 2 has a larger battery but worse battery life than the Switch 1

Despite the Nintendo Switch 2 boasting several upgrades over its predecessor, it isn't all-round better. For instance, despite packing a larger battery capacity, its battery life is shorter as a result of its higher performance processor and large system memory which consume more power.

While games are absurdly expensive, I'm not sure how many consoles they'll sell.

60 € was already very expensive... so 90 €... it's gonna backlash.

As Steve Jobs once stated - "it's not the size of the battery that matters, but it is definitely about the battery's PROPER/EFFICIENT BATTERY MANAGEMENT that rules them all!"

Steve Jobs was a moron and an asshole. bigger battery = better battery life. Period.

But it was to be expected sadly, PS5 and XSX games are 70 to 80 euro since over 3 years now, even PC market starts to go that route sadly.

Then again, people forget inflation is a thing, switch games were mostly 60 euro max, previous PlayStation and Xbox gen were that too.

In 2015 I bought console games for 60 euro, and same in 2010.

And as a kiddo in 2005, most games were 50 to 60 euro here too.

I am more surprised it took so long to go beyond that price.

Yes  games are getting more expensive everywhere so not surprised they are for Nintendo , just don't buy games day 1 and in 2-3 months most are discounted pretty heavily ( exception being first party games ) you can usually pay and get 2 games used or discounted for the price of one brand new

Red Flag

That battery life seems like a possible red flag. 2 hours worst case? Seems like planned obsolescence, to be phased out in 2 years by a much more efficient revision of the SoC with oled.

Where's the efficiency advantage vs x86? Steam deck already does 2 hours on heavy games. Even windows zen 4 apu handhelds are getting 1.5 hours. Strix point has more CUs, if z2 extreme downclocks itself to hawk point levels of performance (which seems to be the rough target of switch 2 or maybe slightly below it), it can be significantly more power efficient.

The only real advantage I can see left now is that since it's rtx 3000 based GPU, it'll have access to dlss4 updated transformer model. But again upscalers tend to do better when they've a lot more data / pixels to deal with. Unsure how much they can do at 720p res..

That along with microSD card express for DirectStorage like performance + having developers optimize for the platform.

Nvidia shouldn't have been allowed to make the SoC. They're clearly resting on their laurels after the Switch 1.

@ZODD you're right in cases of other games/publishers. But look at the older Nintendo exclusive game series, I don't see much discount.

I wanted to buy 2 Switch 2 (for my wife and me). Now, because of the game prices, we are looking for alternatives. PS Portal, SteamDeck (and followers)...

It's not that. Apparently, according to the rumourmill, Nvidia tried to sell Nintendo a SoC based on a much more modern architecture (because even they didn't really want to be manufacturing 8nm Ampere til 2030). But Nintendo said no, because profit margins for them weren't good enough.

In actual hide sight, might of been a good decision. Don't think anyone could of predicted that Trump would put such extreme tariffs on so many countries so quickly.

Companies that are already charging a lot for their products (apple, Nvidia, etc) might start to struggle now because they're going to have to charge 50% more if they wish to keep their margins and not too sure if the market is going to respond positively to that when they're already being gouged. (I mean people are having literal mental health breakdowns with ps5 pro and switch 2 pricing, even tho having those both combined is still cheaper than owning certain Rx 9070 xt models in many countries)
