Each new generation of ZBook is just a step toward the chassis design of the MacBook. If it wasn't for the HP logo, I'd definitely think I was looking at a new MacBook.

If the 16" version can sport 3840x2400, why not a proportional 4320x2700 for the 18"? Let's tear down the 4K barrier!

Also it sounds like you mean WQUXGA for 3840x2400, not WQXGA (which is 2560x1600).

It would be nice for sure, but nobody is producing such panels, so OEMs - HP in this case - can't get them as they don't exist. Also, on one hand, it makes sense to use the same panel because one doesn't sit equally close to an 18" laptop as they do to a 16".

True. I did leave out some of the supporting phrasing acknowledging that it's on panel manufacturers and laptop makers alike.

And perhaps a better balanced increase would be 4096x2560. Heck, I'd like that res on a 16". We'll get there when we get there, though.

Yep! Tbh, what would I like to see is:

  • 3360x2100 for 14" (so 1680x1050 with 200% scaling, 286 PPI)
  • 3840x2400 for 16" (again 200% scaling, so 1920x1200, 283 PPI)
  • and your 4096x2560 (2048x1280 200%, 268 PPI) for 18" sounds about perfectly ideal, IMHO

Plenty of real estate at all screen sizes, no need for fractional scaling, but even with fractional there is plenty of nice possibilities to find exactly what someone's eyes and heart may like the most.
