iFixit has reportedly released a preview of its iPhone 14 Pro Max teardown that reveals how the new top-end mobile flagship's inaugural emergency satellite access works. It apparently involves a component found in many other 5G devices, some of which are not even from Apple. The Snapdragon X65 is a 2021 modem also capable of delivering 5G connectivity.

The most cynical and stupid thing about this venture is that access to SoS should be a priori available to everyone without exception, without any stupid paid subscriptions, because human life is priceless under capitalism. After all, life is priceless, right?

How did you come to that opinion? The attitude that human life is priceless is philosophical or political. We choose to believe it, we choose to behave that way. It is certainly not based in economy. From economical standpoint, your life is worth whatever you could produce had you lived. Because of your death, that is lost. Or more precisely, it would be the difference in output of the whole society. Just because you have a potential, doesn't mean society will benefit from it. Actually, your death could have a positive effect.

In our world, it's up to you to decide what your life is worth. How much you risk it, what precautions you take. Surely, if your life is priceless to you, you'd have no problem paying the subscription. Or getting a full-fledged satelite phone.
