🛠 The Step-by-Step Recovery Solution for a Galaxy Book S
Step 1: Force a Factory Reset via Samsung Recovery (F4)
Do not use a USB drive or the modern Media Creation Tool. You must rely on the intact factory image to preserve your essential drivers.
Turn the laptop completely off (hold the Power button for 10 seconds).
Connect the charging cable.
Turn it on and immediately tap the F4 key repeatedly before the Samsung logo appears.
The Samsung Recovery environment (Device Care) will launch. Select "Factory Reset" to restore the laptop to its original shipping version: Windows 10 Version 1909.
Step 2: Install Original Samsung Drivers First
Before letting Windows download any major updates, you must secure the hardware baseline.
Downlaod the Samsung Update from the Microsoft Store or use Windows Update .
Install all available driver updates (especially the Intel Chipset, Graphics, and Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers).
Step 3: The Archive.org Bridge (Critical Step)
Microsoft has removed older milestone updates from their active update servers. Jumping directly from version 1909 to 22H2 will fail and cause a bootloop. You must manually bridge the gap using Windows 10 Version 2004.
Open your browser on the laptop and go to archive.org.
Once downloaded, double-click the ISO file to mount it as a virtual drive.
Run the setup.exe inside the folder and select "Keep personal files and apps". This performs a safe, offline In-Place Upgrade to version 2004 without internet interference.
Step 4: Reach the Stable Target (Windows 10 22H2)
Now that your partition structures and migration drivers are updated, you can safely move to the final stable version.
Go to Windows Settings ➔ Update & Security ➔ Windows Update.
Check for updates and allow the system to install Windows 10 Version 22H2.
After starting Version 22H2 Windows may have "forgotten" the username, preventing you from accessing the system. If this happens, hold down the Shift key, click "Restart," and boot the device in Safe Mode. The administrator password is blank. Press the Windows key + R and type `netplwiz`. Set up a new user and restart.
Step 5: Permanently Block Windows 11 & Enjoy Free ESU until 2027
Windows Update will aggressively try to push Windows 11 Version 24H2/25H2, which will instantly throw your device back into a bootloop.
Block Windows 11: Click "Stay on Windows 10 for now" in the update menu, or use Group Policy / Registry Editor (TargetReleaseVersion) to lock your operating system to Windows 10.
Free ESU Support: Because you are in Europe (EEA), Microsoft provides Extended Security Updates (ESU) for free to private users until October 12, 2027. Your Galaxy Book S will remain safe, secure, and fully functional without risking a system crash.
