New 4K UHD Blu-ray disc players are unlikely, with one exception

Despite something of a revival in physical media and continued strong sales of 4K UHD Blu-ray discs, no new players were unveiled at IFA. We spoke with Yamaha about the situation and searched the show floor, where we found a relatively unknown company that may have potential: Krovatar.

At least I did one thing right !!!

When the announcement was made the Oppo would not be building players anymore after their 4k BD203,
I decided that 2k bluray was good enough for me since my whole library was built on that...
I already owned a BD93 and BD103 . Went on ebay and bought 2 used BD103Ds, 1 more 93 and one more 103 ...
At 71 years old those 6 Oppos will certainly outlast me !!!   Lol..

They're built like tanks and 4 of them have HDMI inputs... which allows me to use the Oppo Darby system and circuitry to punch up my Ruko when used !

The leap from standard DVD to Bluray was Huge ... whereas I just didnt see the cost moving from 2k to 4k ...

On the contrary, the KBU-300 is still available on amazon. I got mine for free since I placed in my review that they are using Panasonic drive mechanisms. Well, when Panasonic stops manufacturing their 4K Blu-ray line, then there will be no more drive mechanisms being built. Krovatar claims that have taken heavy stock in this part.

It's impressive for such a compact unit. However, I still went out and purchased the Panasonic DP-820K for $549.00. I just checked, in the past week, they have upped on the price. Now it is in the $649 range. Absolutely not worth it when you consider the unreliable disc tray that is temperamental. This unit came out in June 9, 2019. Panasonic is milking this for every Nickle. Back in 2019, this unit retailed for $350.00. Talk about a mark up!
