I recently moved to a smaller town outside Kamloops, and I honestly didn't expect the local library to be much more than a place to borrow books. But I was so wrong — they run workshops, have tech help drop-ins, even host a "coffee and conversation" hour once a week. Last Thursday I sat in on a photography class there, and the instructor was a retired journalist who moved up here from Vancouver. It made me appreciate how important these spaces are, especially in quieter towns. Anyone else tapped into what their local library offers?

I've had a similar experience here in Quesnel. I started going just to pick up audiobooks, but now I'm part of a community writers' group that meets twice a month — all organized by the library. I found out about it through bc local , actually. They often post updates from local libraries, and it's how I've kept in the loop about events that aren't always advertised well. Honestly, these programs help people stay curious and connected, especially when you're far from big urban centres.

Never thought of the library as anything more than books, but sounds like they've evolved a lot. It's good to know there are still places where people can learn new things without spending a fortune.
