Ok, the story so far is that PlayStation sales have outpaced Xbox sales by a wide margin for some time. The current Xbox design is 'dated' as compared to at least the PS5-Pro.
It is unclear as to the populations of actual "Xbox owners", "PlayStation owners" or individuals and/or households that have an example of both. PC gamers and possibly by extension 'Xbox Pass' PC users may dwarf both the console numbers combined.
Microsoft still owns quite a few studios but eventually games tend to be released on all three mentioned platforms.
While the obvious play here is for the reoccurring revenue (the 'holy grail' of businesses) in various 'game pass' subscriptions, the questions here are not only who might be interested in an upgraded xbox but with the timing of the release of one.
IMHO: Microsoft needs to release a Xbox 'generational upgrade' which 'leapfrogs' not only their current model but the PS5-Pro ASAP to not only give their current users happy but keep current Xbox customers on Microsoft systems.
With the knowledge of PS5 & PS5-Pro users complaining that few 'true next generation titles' that are exclusive for the platform have released to date, a new Xbox platform (along with true next-gen titles) might convince PlayStation owners to get a new Xbox.
With a new next generation Xbox, the current Xbox owners might be less likely to get a current or future PlayStation.
As always, just IMHO.
YMMV.
