Less than three months ago, the RPCS3 team shared that the Android version of the PS3 emulator won't land on mobile anytime soon. However, the founder has now developed an alpha version for Android, and it took less than a week.

What futility, all those hundreds of hours of work in vain... An ARM Soc running at 10w won't run PS3 games well, even a fucking AVX512 9950X @ 120-200w can't run all games at full speed.

What's more, it will run some light 2D games, people hoping to see something like GOW3 running will also throw money at the project's patreon, and that's the only reason for the devs to do this. Meh, guys.

It's not always just about throwing tons of watts and avx-512 but sometimes how close the underlying ISA is similar to host CPU architecture.

PPC and AArch64 are a lot more similar to one another. They're both RISC-based. They both can do big or little endian.

x86 is just so completely different. Besides comparing to a desktop chip isn't the best idea. Those are built from the ground up to waste watts on purpose (ask any CPU architect). They're not even trying to save watts there. It'd be more apt to compare vs mobile chip, like Ryzen AI Max+ 395.

And what's wrong if it "only runs lighter games" lol? I think you under estimate how barren and desperate the landscape is for us mobile gamers. Not all of us care about GoW or even playstation exclusives.

There are plenty of lighter titles to be excited for: hot shots golf, virtua fighter 5, ridge racer 7, DBZ games, etc. It is not just 2D, but many 3d titles that are lightweight also.

I do like Killzone 2 and Twisted Metal tho, which are extremely heavy games. So I guess we'll have to skip those. ='[
