Asus ROG Ally gaming handheld sees up to $200 discount, makes MSI Claw an even tougher sell

Both configurations of the Asus ROG Ally gaming handheld have seen a price cut on Best Buy. The one with the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme is currently at $599.99, while the unit with the regular Ryzen Z1 is $399.99. With these prices, the MSI Claw with the Intel Core Ultra processors is even less attractive than before.

Quotemakes MSI Claw an even tougher sell

Definitely.

There have been a decent amount of reviews on youtube this week, and they all showed that the MSI Claw is worse than all other handhelds, even worse than the Steamdeck, because the Steamdeck can hold a more consistent framerate.

The framerate lags seem to be the biggest problem for Intel now. Not sure what's the cause of this. Some reviews think it is because it only has 16gb RAM. Maybe it really needs 32gb. I really wonder if the Notebookcheck tests on the Yoga Slim Pro did experience the same framerate lags or not... But that had at least 32gb RAM.

And of course it also seems to be a driver problem. It's kinda ridiculous because the most recent ETA Prim review showed, that the "slower" MSI Claw with 135H is actually often faster than the "faster should be" MSI Claw with 155H. And the reason for that seems to be the exaggerated amount of CPU Cores on the 155H, which takes too much power away from the iGPU.

It's really ridiculous how f...-up Intel has made its processors, especially when even armchair computer scientists could smell this issue from miles away (and many tests from a year ago have also shown that the amount of cores have become a mess to manage for the threaddirector).

What? Competition in the Portable Gaming space!?!?! Awesome!! Bring it on!!!

In the END it is a CLEAR WIN for Gamers!!!

I've always said that these devices ought to be in the $300-500 price range to hit the "sweet spot".

Granted the Asus & MSI are both hampered by the MS license (and overhead!) it should not be surprising to ANYONE that AMD makes better drivers than Intel. :)

So the $64 question is: has Intel released Linux drivers and has anyone tried SteamOS on a MSI Claw yet? (extra points for 'parking extra' CPU cores) :)

Asus ROG Ally has seen a price cut but regardless of this WE ALL KNOW that it is much superior to the MSI Claw since with Intel the energy consumption is greater, there are 2 hours less gaming and the heating problem, in addition to the fact that it has less number of frames the AMD Z1 has not yet been surpassed in testing. Whoever buys MSI Claw would be wasting money
